Carpool to the start at Mendenhall Park in Big Pine. The Park is on Baker Creek Rd., just south of the junction of Hwy 168 with 395. Turn right from 395 southbound and park in the shade. This is the very big day to cycle-up to the old wood in the heavens of White Mountain. The Inyo Mountains are not forested, so you can see the whole thing, start-to-finish. Gaze down on the Palisade Glaciers of the Sierra. Water cache at the junction of Hwy 168 & White Mtn. Rd., mile 14. Vending machines and drinking fountain at the National Forest Visitors’ Center, mile 24, elevation 10,100 ft. Saunter among the Ancient Bristlecones along the 0.8 mile trail from the Center. This is the climax of the tour.
