Old Calaveras,Palomares,Calaveras/Backside,Welch Creek,Calaveras/Upper
Join me for my last, spirited tapering ride prior to Mulholland Double. Here, overcoming samsara is as simple as a 3.75 mile climb. Flush out the agony and avoid unintentional wheelies on the unyielding climb to the burgeoning Welch Creek pigs - it's all much more reasonable from there. Regroups at summits; water / snacks at Sunol Corners Market and lunch in either Dublin or Sunol, later in the ride. Early start in the interests of avoiding the worst of the afternoon Tesla brigade on Calaveras. Meet at Berryessa Community Center - 3050 Berryessa Rd - at 8:20am for an 8:30 roll-out. Rain cancels. Download route here. 02-04-2024 08:30:00 02-04-2024 10:30:00 6 ACTC: Calaveras to Dublin; wretched Welch Crk 79 mi, 6 M , 7000 ft: Join me for my last, spirited tapering ride prior to Mulholland Double. Quien Sabe,Santa Anita,Lone Tree
Let's enjoy the area around Hollister while the hills are so green and hopefully see some wild flowers. Meet at the church just south of Tres Pinos for the first two goats. I plan to drive from there to the base of Lone Tree for the last one, but riders can navigate there without me - I dislike riding on Fairview Rd because of the lack of shoulders and traffic. Add other goats (Cienaga?) or delete, so long as I am notified. Bring plenty of food & water as there are no services along the route, and often no cell service. Additionally, these roads are bumpy, so if you have a bike with wider tires, bring it!
Here is the route for Queen Sabe & Santa Anita
And here's the route for Lone Tree (though it's hard to get lost on an out-and-back.) 08-04-2024 09:30:00 08-04-2024 11:30:00 6 ACTC: Hollister Wildflower Expedition 29-50 mi, 5 LM-M , 2900-5800 ft: Let's enjoy the area around Hollister while the hills are so green and hopefully see some wild flowers. Starting in Redwood City, hack up OLH, down 84, across the Stage bumps to replenish in Pescadero. But that is all a warm-up. After a coastal dash, meander up Haskins and Alpine to Portola Park o&b before returning to finish the peaceful and epic climb up the ridge. At that point, one could simply descend to the start, but we have a brief side-trip up Ramona / Vista Verde. Is it the Bohlman of the West? You decide.
Meet at 8:50 AM in the Red Morton Park lot on 1120 Roosevelt Ave in Redwood City, under the solar panels, and leave by 9:00 AM.

Via Santa Teresa/Scenic Vista,Hicks East,Mt Umunhum,Hicks Trio
Start/Finish: Almaden Lake Park near the bocce ball courts and restrooms off Winfield Blvd, San Jose. We will climb as much as we can before the Tierra Bella Volunteers Picnic at 12:30 PM.
*** The ride is open to everyone but the picnic is reserved for TB Volunteers and RSVP is required. ***
If you don't know if you can finish the whole ride in time, you can skip as many goats as needed; no need to stress yourself out. Hicks Trio will be the most skippable, but you can even skip Umunhum itself if you are nervous about time. I will have leftover energy bars from Tierra Bella for all riders.
We can regroup at the summits, depending on the turnout and desire for it; we'll discuss prior to ride. All paces and bikes are welcome. Text, call, or email me for any questions regarding the ride.

Morgan Hill
Let's see some of the Tierra Bella sights in good weather! Starting at Almaden Lake Park (Winfield side off of Coleman), we ride south past Calero Reservoir, climb "Buffalo" hill and continue past the full Uvas Reservoir to Watsonville Rd. After climbing the gentle but beautiful Sycamore Drive, we will lunch in Morgan Hill before fighting the omnipresent headwinds of Hale/Santa Teresa back to the start. The likely many e-bikes will do the pulling as needed; analogs can just enjoy the lush scenery with no shame. As are all my rides, no one left behind.
