124.5 mi, 6 MB, 16300 ft
Billy Goat
Soda Springs,Black,Hwy 236 Upper,Big Basin/little Basin,Jamison Creek,Empire Grade Lower,Empire Grade Middle,Alba,Zayante
A challenging ride to prepare for the Carmel Valley Double Century. Originally created by Peter Licht as an AA training ride, this route strings together many of the best climbing roads in the Santa Cruz Mountains into one unforgettable day! We'll start at Lexington School and use Soda Springs as a warm-up before returning to the start to refill water bottles and top off food supplies. Riders who prefer a later start can meet at Lexington School around 8:45 a.m. and skip the Soda Springs warm-up. Please contact me if you plan to take this option. From there, we're off to the cooler side of the mountain. If you'd like to shorten the ride, you can skip the Alba climb. I can provide a RWGPS route for that option. Lunch is available in Davenport (turn right on Highway 1 instead of left) at Tacos Moreno or Whale City Bakery. Another food stop is available later in the ride in Felton. 01-08-2026 07:00:00 01-08-2026 09:00:00 6 ACTC: Carmel Valley Double Training Ride 124.5 mi, 6 MB , 16300 ft: A challenging ride to prepare for the Carmel Valley Double Century. Calaveras/Lower,Calaveras/Backside,Calaveras/Upper,Kilkare Rd
Since another ride vanished from the calendar like a witness in a mob movie, I've been granted the rare 48-hour-rule exemption to lead this one solo. Yes----solo! Which means: 1.--No Rosemary-turns out she'd rather go to "fill in blank" than keep the senior brigade company. 2.-- No rescue squad-if you bonk, your only medical support is me yelling "hydrate!' from 40ft ahead. 3.--So no adult supervision-the club has essentially handed me the keys and said "try not to burn anything down". 4.-- No mechanical sympathy. If your derailleur explodes, I'll offer you emotional support and absolutely zero useful help. There will be one generous rest stop after Kilkare for free water refills! After that, we turn around and retrace our steps like a group of cyclists who forgot how loops work. Regroups at the top of the hills for the pace posted. 01-08-2026 09:30:00 01-08-2026 11:30:00 6 ACTC: Kilkare Kardiac Klassic 51 mi, 4 M , 4120 ft: Since another ride vanished from the calendar like a witness in a mob movie, I've been granted the rare 48-hour-rule exemption to lead this one solo. Birthday Ride
Oh come pedal with Craig and with Jamey, you see, On a wiggly squiggly ride through Almaden Valley. Where the ups become downs and the downs become ups, And the ins become outs in this zig-zag route. We’ll go through where we went ‘round, And around where we once went through. If you think you know the route already… Well this one might surprise you. But fear not, dear riders, for Rosemary’s there, Our sweep in the back with impeccable care. She’ll keep every rider on course, on track, and gently collect any stragglers in back. It’s our quarterly birthday celebration ride— So come spin your wheels with birthday pride! Choose any route you fancy that day, But if you want twisties, this one’s your buffet. Miles of wiggles, giggles, and scenic delight— Join us Wednesday morning for a Seussical flight! Ride may be cut short depending on time and that's the end of this invite rhyme. 05-08-2026 10:00:00 05-08-2026 12:00:00 6 ACTC: The Birthday Bash of Befuddling Bends 36 mi, 1 M , 2350 ft: Oh come pedal with Craig and with Jamey, you see, On a wiggly squiggly ride through Almaden Valley. Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. Today will be a short but sweet training for the Carmel Valley Double, as I am busy juggling vacation plans right now. We will do our Summer Fitness Route in the Santa Cruz Mountains as it has most of the climbing of the CVD. If you are still thirsty for more punishment at the end of the ride, you can still pick up Montevina, Aldercroft, Soda Springs, or any of the goats in the area. Combine this ride with our Sunday ride, and the back-to-back training will get you to a good place for the CVD. Jennifer will lead the faster cyclists in front. Melanie will lead from behind. Dzung's CVD is 2 weeks away, so stay strong! 08-08-2026 07:30:00 08-08-2026 09:30:00 6 ACTC: Summer DRT Fitness Series 100 mi, 5 LM , 13,211 ft: Ride Start: Upper parking lot of the Lexington Elementary School in Los Gatos. Old Santa Cruz Hwy,Hazel Dell,Eureka Canyon
On this training ride, we head over the hill and beat the heat and see some different roads and sights as we loop to Castroville and Salinas. Starting at the Lexington School, we ride up OSC and down Soquel-San Jose to some coastside riding south to Castroville with a potential lunch stop in Salinas (mile 58). We then head back north, along Elkhorn Slough, to Watsonville (Gizdich?) and around Hazel Dell to Corralitos to stock up on water for the slog up Eureka Canyon and back to the start.
We'll make a water and restroom stop at Cummings Park (m18) or Seacliff (m26) on the outbound. Expect a moderate pace with regroups at summits and noted rest stops. Major climbs come early and late with a lot of rollers in between. Anyone wanting to cut it short can cross to the return leg in Watsonville eliminating 40 or more miles. 09-08-2026 09:00:00 09-08-2026 11:00:00 6 ACTC: Metric Double (CVD training?) 122 mi, 5 M , 7250 ft: On this training ride, we head over the hill and beat the heat and see some different roads and sights as we loop to Castroville and Salinas. I've had several requests for ride at Calero, so let's do it! We'll meet at the Rancho San Vincente parking lot and start our ride promptly at 9:00 (note the earlier than usual start time) to beat the heat. We'll do a loop of the Lisa Killough and Cottle trails, with a regroup at the junction at the bottom of Lisa Killough. This fun, easy ride is beginner friendly but has enough twists and turns to keep it fun for all riders. At the junction, we can make a group decision about adding an out-and-back on the Oak Cove Trail which is also beginner friendly (see this route for the ride with the optional out-and-back). If interested, bring some drinks or snacks to share after the ride. 09-08-2026 09:00:00 09-08-2026 11:00:00 6 ACTC: TrailRoller - Calero 8.5 mi, 2 LM , 800 ft: I've had several requests for ride at Calero, so let's do it! Featuring: Corralitos Charm, Hazel Dell Suffering, Mt Madonna Humility. Bring-water, snacks and your best "I swear I eat vegetables" face. Ride will be paced at medium-spicy. Like sriracha, but with gluten-free agony perhaps. There will be a short cruelty free water stop in Corralitos at Hames. So join the Vegan and his almost vegan wife. For our final CVD Training Ride we’ll head for Mt. From the summit, we drop down the wild backside of Hamilton into San Antonio Valley where cell service becomes more of a theoretical concept. Then it’s on to Mines Road toward Livermore. Livermore brings us back to civilization, food, water, and the false realization that we’re almost finished Instead, we’ll head for Sunol and Calaveras. We’ll roll past Calaveras Reservoir, tackle the hills to the Dam and climb Felter to the top of Sierra. We will eventually arrive back at Berryessa with a large number on the Garmin and an excellent answer to the question, “So, what did you do today?” Bring plenty of food, plenty of water, and your climbing legs. 15-08-2026 08:00:00 15-08-2026 10:00:00 6 ACTC: CVD Training: Mt. Starting at 10:00 pdt (~3 hrs before solar noon) from Diridon Transit Center, we will head N on Guadalupe River Trail for spectacular sights. This area is very public transit friendly. As usual, if you bring your "sorrisi" (smiles) and "racconti" (stories), we will stop for "spuntini" (snacks). I can adjust my speed to accommodate slower riders. Please bring your tools for any unfortunate events, and check the rides bulletin for any last minute updates. If you think you might be late, call/txt me and I can wait a reasonable amount of time. With your unadorned bicycle and no tools, do you open IPA bottles, adjust spokes, carry gear rack-free, snooze in place, sing in motion, or align your rear derailleur? Regardless of your reply (please do RSVP to go), let's bike camp to Point Bonita and perhaps beyond, in two stages: Stage 1: Golden Gate, outbound, and Stage 2: Presidio-San Bruno Mtn., inbound. Expect scenic pauses, surprise points of interest, ample route amenities, no warm showers, and retail resupply (Marin City). Carry light yet robust overnight gear, full road lights and reflection, funds and a puncture kit. Please reply no later than 17:00, Friday, August 28. 29-08-2026 08:00:00 29-08-2026 10:00:00 6 ACTC: Introduction to bike camp Stage 1 58 mi, 4 LM , 4209 ft: With your unadorned bicycle and no tools, do you open IPA bottles, adjust spokes, carry gear rack-free, snooze in place, sing in motion, or align your rear derailleur?
