|Wed, 13 Sep 2017||Eastern Sierras - Onion Valley|
|8:30 AM||26 mi, 6 LM-M, 5200 ft|
|Billy Goat||Onion Valley|
The Complete Guide to Climbing calls this the hardest climb in California and compares it to Alp d’Huez. In just 13 miles we’ll climb 5,200 ft to Onion Valley (el. 9,200 ft). Option to do only 14 miles total and 3,400 ft of climbing. Long stretches of 8-10%. Meet at Dehy Park on the west side of US-395 at the north end of Independence. Look for the narrow gauge engine restoration that is going on at the site. When coming from the north, turn in just after crossing Independence Creek. Buy lunch at the end of the ride.
